As some of you know – and helped – we, Conexão Simple Plan, got an interview with Katie Rox, who recently worked with Sébastien on Christmas Etc EP. We sent the interview to her and when we receive the answers we had a big – and amazing – surprise to know that besides Katie, Sébastien had answered the questions, too. So it’s with great happiness that we, Conexão Simple Plan, are posting now an exclusive interview with Katie Rox and Sebastien Lefebvre.

1- We know that you and Seb are friends since some years ago. How long have you known each other and where the idea of playing together came from?

Katie – A: We have known each other for about..6 or 7 years I think! When Seb was putting together his solo EP, he would play some of the songs for me. I loved where he was going with it. Then he sent me his song “Catch me”, for me to sing on. From there, the idea would come up sometimes to write together.

2- How did you know each other?

Seb – A: We met when SP was making the second record. She was working with us at the studio where we mixed the record in Vancouver.

3- How long have you been working in this EP?

? – A: It came together very quickly! We started in September.

4- Did you write together or did each one write a song to put in the EP?

? – A: We wrote all the songs together. We started some of them together, and then kept working on them over the internet, like in the webseries we did, Write Here- Write There.

5- Where the inspiration to compose the songs come from?

? – A: It all started with “Let’s write a Christmas song!”….from there, we’d just joke around during conversations and get song ideas from those.

6- Which part was more difficult: compose or record?

? – A: For some reason, we really connect when we write. So that part was fairly easy. We made each others ideas better by going back and forth with them. But the recording was pretty easy. We would do a decent demo, then rework what we thought was not to our liking, and then finish the songs!

7- From the EP songs, which one is your favorite?

? – A: Every time I decide one of the songs is my favorite, I change my mind. I tend to repeat “Other Side” the most. But with Christmas being right now, I love listening to that! And Rich of course, because I am hoping it is sending subliminal messages to the universe.

8- How is work with Sébastien? Did you guys have fun?

Katie – A: Of course! Seb is really funny so we spend half the time laughing, and the other half working. He really knows how to craft a song together with all the perfect “moments”.

9- Did you disagree about anything in any moment?

A: I don’t think there ever was any real disagreements. Sometimes we would come up with a part, and then the other one would come up with something better… But i don’t call that fighting at all.

10- Perhaps it’s too early to do this question, but do you think about releasing another EP together?

Seb – A: I can see that happening for sure. Even after this one came out, we kept on writing. Katie has her own stuff and I have my own stuff and the band… But for sure we love to write together as well.

11- Does the birds on the cover represents you and Sébastien? Why birds?

Katie – A: Yes, those birds are us! I’m the pretty one. We don’t have any photos together since we recorded the album apart, so we had to think of something else. Seb’s friend Fred Jerome did the artwork for us – I believe he came up with the birds.

12- Who had the idea of the Webisodes?

? – A: It was a combined effort of us and everyone we’ve ever met. It was kind of an interesting story to write songs when we are apart, so we had to show people how it’s done. Sometimes, it’s good to use technology to your advantage.

13- According to the Websodes, you composed with internet’s help since the distance between you and Sébastien interfered. How was to compose in this way?

? – A: Sometimes when the internet connection isn’t good, it can be hard! But it’s also really fun – I still marvel at where technology is that we can do something like this.

14- Which are your musical influences?

?- A: That list is always too long. I think we can say that the things that influence us the most is everything we’ve ever listened to, and life in general.

15- Have you ever listened to a brazilian band/singer? Do you like any brazilian singer?

? – A: I’ve heard the music but don’t know anyone specifically. It’s very sexy! Who do you recommend?

16- Do you know something in Portuguese?

?- A: OBRIGADO!!

17- Have you ever visit CSP, our website?

Katie – A: Yes! When you asked for the interview, I went to the website. It’s awesome! Good job to all that worked on putting it together.

18- Tell us a little about your work as a singer to those who don’t know and where they can see/listen to your work.

Katie – A: I was in a rock band for a few years until I decided to switch directions for an acoustic style. I have 2 solo albums out – the first one (High Standards) was recorded in my closet, which is where I recorded my parts for Christmas Etc. The other album is called Searchlight.

19- Would you like to do a tour out of your country?

Seb – A: I think at some point we’d love to just play a single show somewhere. It would be cool to play some of Katie’s songs and also some of my songs with the songs we did together. We’d have a super show on our hands.

20- Send a message to those who acess our website!

Katie – A: I can see how much you all love Sebastien, so thank you for supporting me too with our project. That really speaks volumes about the kind of fans you are! Thank you for being so hardcore about everything we do! We love the support!

As you can see below, on the image, Katie sent us a tweet saying that she was ok with the fact of giving us an interview. After that, she followed us on Twitter. (@ConexaoSP_BR).
