CSP: Hi, Jeff, how are you?
JEFF: I’m fine doing this!
CSP: Thank you so much for this!
JEFF: My pleasure!
CSP: If the band was in a horror movie, who would be the first to die and who would be the survivor? Why?
JEFF: David would die first for sure! David is the weak one of the band. But the survivor… I think that would be Pierre or me. It’s between us. We are the most likely to survive in nature, I mean, Chuck doesn’t even know how to cook! Seb is wise, very wise… but I still think that Pierre and I have better chances
CSP: If you could be one of the members of Simple Plan for a day, who would you be?
JEFF: Like person, I could be Pierre, because he is the one who will die later! He is like no stress, Mr. Zen, super relax… Seriously, that guy is the chilliest man I’ve known in my whole life! I’m the opposite; I’m like Mr. Stress! I can learn a lot from Pierre in that sense… But I would like to play drums. Chuck plays and looks easy! It is something that I like to try someday.
CSP: In 2009 you made a tour in Brazil and played shows in seven cities. Which of these concerts was the most exciting for you?
JEFF: Listen, this is hard because I don’t wanna upset anyone from Brazil, but Sao Paulo was really good, definitely the craziest show! Honestly, it was one of the best shows of our lives, it was just fantastic! We played in many shows, and it’s like a holiday for us, because we see a lot of people, we got a lot of friends in Brazil and a lot of fans. I mean, it’s great to see places in Brazil! We have so much fun in these places, discovering your country is really amazing. It is so different, so diverse… I don’t know, Sao Paulo is always awesome to us.
CSP: Before you became famous, have you imagined to be recognized around the world?
JEFF: No, absolutely not. But it is funny, because you dream about it, and you wanna be successful… I didn’t imagine necessarily that I would be recognized by you in Brazil, for example, I never thought that would happen, but I dreamt that in some point we were gonna be successful. I remember when we started Simple Plan, Chuck, Pierre and I, Sébastien too. We talked about traveling the world, see great places, see Brazil, see the brazilian girls… but we were just talking, you know? You dream about it, but definitely you’ll always be afraid to admit it! You know, you don’t tell to your friends “I’m gonna be in a very popular band someday”, they will think that you are crazy!
CSP: About the 4th album, did you want to give up of this album at any moment?
JEFF: No! I mean, Simple Plan records are always hard to make, we’re not very good in making records (Laughs)! But we never wanted to give up because the songs are amazing and it’s just a question of time: we write a lot of songs, we record a lot of stuff, and we pick the best ones together as a group. It was so hard to choose the songs for this record, but we got an amazing collection of songs! It wasn’t painful to make, it was just a long thing to do.
CSP: Do you already know how is gonna be the cover for this new album?
JEFF: Well, we shot it last Wednesday, actually I have it on my computer but I can’t show you girl! It is pretty sick, it’s funny! We’re gonna send new pictures soon, you’re gonna see videos, you’re gonna see the video of Can’t Keep my Hands of You, probably next week I think. There is gonna be more and more stuff coming out before June 21, Can’t Keep my Hands of You is also gonna be the first single. I think you’re gonna be surprised with the video!
CSP: What was the funniest song to compose and to write?
JEFF: Can’t Keep my Hands of You definitely is that song. It is such a great, funny song. I have fun everytime I play it, it is really amazing. All the songs are so much fun to make, but, there is this song called Astronaut, it is such an amazing song! We know that you are expecting a lot, but we have to be sure that it is gonna be perfect! And the videoclipe, I have to say, it’s insane! We shot it in a very cool location, in the desert, and it is very very unique, the video shot is gonna be amazing!
CSP: How was the feeling of seeing the studio full of fans while recording “This Song Saved My Life”?
JEFF: It was cool because in the studio we do the stuff alone, you’re not always with the band, you don’t get a lot interaction. So, seeing all those people there and their reaction was pretty amazing. Hearing they singing this song is very powerful, the song is so unique, you know, when I hear this song now I have shivers! It is such a powerful song, can’t wait for you guys to hear it!
CSP: How do you do to choose the coolest guitar for the videoclips?
JEFF: I’m a freak, I got a crazy guitar collection, I’ve got too many! I know how and which one fits the song best, so I know which one will sound better. Sébastien and I know how to work with each other. Sébastien and I don’t talk really much; we are not even friends (Laughs)! I’m kidding, Seb and I have such a great chemistry, play guitar with this guy is really great!
CSP: We have some questions by the fans. This one is by Danielle Oliveira, Brazil “Jeff, what do you think that will be the first impression of the fans after hearing the new album?”
JEFF: I don’t know, have no idea, but I’m really proud of this record! It is amazing, we worked so hard and it doesn’t sound like we worked hard, it sounds like a fun record. You know, it remembers a little the style of the record one, but with better songs. So, I don’t know how the people are gonna react to it, but my friends that heard it said “Wow, really good!” It has the best songs we’ve ever done.
CSP: By: Maya Perez, Brazil “In 11 years together, what has changed in personality and/or behavior of the band members?”
JEFF: Well, we are older and wiser now, we don’t fight so much! But, I don’t know, in all this time together we pass through a lot of things, the challenges as a band, in a personal level too, and now we are stronger, we’re more united. We still have fun together, doing what we love together, I don’t know, they are just my best friends and it is good being in band with your friends. I mean, Sébastien is my neighbor, I can pass the holidays with Chuck, I like to hang out with Pierre, and we’re together for so long and we know each other so well, I don’t know, they are just my best friends. You don’t know a lot of bands that after 12 years still go to holidays together. You know, that is pretty rare.
CSP: Do you receive a lot of mentions on Twitter? Which was the craziest one?
JEFF: In my birthday I got a lot of crazy ones, to parties where I was invited, it was pretty crazy! A lot of videos of people covering Simple Plan’s songs, really well actually. In December, I got my shoulder operated, and I got so much cool tweets… So it is fun, because you interact with the fans, and you talk with them. Actually, is a lot of fans, but definitely brazilian fans are the louder on twitter! I just can’t stand repeat spam on twitter; it makes me so angry (Laughs)! I don’t know, I verbalize a lot.
CSP: If you had to lose one of your senses, what would it be?
JEFF: I think I’d choose lose taste. Because you still can see the people, hear them, touch them… I could be happy with this.
CSP: In one word, how would you describe David, Chuck, Pierre and Seb or the band itself?
JEFF: David, crazy; Pierre, Zen; Chuck, intense; Sébastien is funny.
CSP: Which is you favorite Simple Plan’s song?
JEFF: It’s Astronaut.
CSP: That is not fair, We don’t know this song yet! Which one among the older songs, then?
JEFF: Sorry for that (Laughs)! Well, among the older songs… it is pretty hard! It is like choosing a baby! Hum… I think I got Perfect, ‘cause it was the most important song for us. Actually, I like them all except I’m just a kid. I’m so tired to hear it! I like this song, I just heard enough! We played that song for eleven years, it’s a long time! And it still play a lot on the radio in Montreal.
CSP: Could you leave a message to the people that access our website, please?
JEFF: I really appreciate the fan sites, I got these sites pictures about me and show to my friends. Thank you very much, because you got a lot of excusive pictures that I have no ideia where you take them! That is pretty amazing, so congratulations and thank you for your support, it is just amazing and I just really sorry for we take so long to burn out the record…
CSP: We know that the record will rock and you are giving your best!
JEFF: Yes, you know, is too hard being on the beach for two years (Laughs)!! I’m kidding, that isn’t true! I’m in Montreal, actually.
CSP: Talk about Canada, which is the canadian artist that you like the most?
JEFF: I like a lot of canadian artists. I don’t know, I like Bryan Adams… What else? God, there are too many, they are pretty amazing.
CSP: And from Brazil?
JEFF: I like this guy called Kiko Loureiro, he plays in this band, Angra, it is a metal band. It is a good band.
CSP: What do you do to take care of your bald head?
JEFF: Well, this is my secret!!
CSP: Well, Thank you Jeff for this! You are awesome!
JEFF: Thank you, guys! Thank you for your support!
